Managing Director

Based in Taupo, New Zealand, Karl Berendt is a specialist in health and safety consultation  and worksite incident investigation. He has 16 years extensive practical experience in the hydro and geothermal energy sector, both domestically and internationally. Karl has worked in a variety of industries including visual retail, timber processing, heavy/light automotive logistics, oil & gas drilling, heavy equipment sales, electrical contracting, industrial coatings, abrasive blasting, rural contracting and welding quality assurance.

Karl is a Certified Incident Investigator, Root Cause Analysis educator and is a Contract Taproot® Instructor for New Zealand. He has lectured and taught in Europe, the United States and New Zealand on the topics of safety, root cause analysis and hazard awareness. Karl is a member of the NZ Institute of Safety Management (NZISM)  and the UK Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH).

His speaking engagements have seen him present to groups,  including NZ Crane Association, NZ Quality Organisation, NZ Defence Force, ENEX and Safety 360 Conferences.  When not at work, Karl enjoys restoring old trucks and is a model train buff.  His voluntary work has included serving as a volunteer fireman, collecting for the IHC and as a sponsor of Taupo junior Netball.

Derek Rutherford

Derek, a mathematics graduate began his career in the petrochemical industry, working for Shell UK and the British Oxygen Company. He then took up a position with the UK government overseeing the biopharmaceutical industry, where he spent over twenty five years managing manufacturing activities of licensed therapeutic drugs and vaccines.

In 2013 he completed his investigation and training certificate through Systems Improvement in the USA. He now works as a Contract TapRooT ® Instructor and presents training courses in the UK, Ireland and continental Europe.

Derek’s attention to detail, vast industry experience and high level management as part of the regulatory body, teamed with his training and investigation skills, make him a perfect choice for those seeking assistance in these highly complex process industries.

Jon Lauridson

Vehicle Lead Investigator

Jon has worked on numerous investigations with us to assess vehicles post incident especially in the heavy/commercial automotive field. His attention to detail has been a valuable asset to our clients and assited them in discovering even the most difficult to find faults.

Jon has New Zealand trade qualifications, which include Trade Certificate Automotive Engineering (light- petrol), Trade Certificate and Advanced Trade Certificate in Heavy Automotive Engineering (diesel). Jon has been various roles over the 30 years he has been involved in the automotive industry.

His workshop & product knowledge includes franchise experience for Isuzu commercials. This included senior and master technician certification in 1997, 1998 & 1999. Nissan Diesel (UD) franchise experience achieving Deputy Senior technician certification in Japan in 2002 & 2005. Since 2001 Jon has been directly involved with Kenworth, DAF, Iveco & Volvo commercial vehicles, diagnosis & repair.

During this time his roles have evolved from a hands on Workshop foreman role to Service Advisor, Training Manager and Service Manager.

In his spare time Jon enjoys spending time with his family, trail riding, hunting & fishing.

Dr Joel Haight Ph.D., P.E.CSP, CIH

Joel is our specialist in the field of Human Factors. His years of experience can help companies across all disciplines to ensure that their workplaces work at the highest possible efficiency while maintaining high standards of safety

Dr. Haight is an Associate Professor of Industrial Engineering in the Swanson School of Engineering at the University of Pittsburgh where he teaches and does research in the areas of productivity, human factors engineering and safety engineering.  Prior to that, he served as Chief of the Human Factors Branch at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) – National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) at their Pittsburgh Office of Mine Safety and Health Research, where he managed a research branch of 35-40 researchers in the areas of ergonomics, cognitive engineering, human behavior and training.  Dr. Haight also served for nearly 10 years, as an Associate Professor of Energy and Mineral Engineering at the Pennsylvania State University. 

Dr. Haight worked as a manager and engineer for the Chevron Corporation for 18 years prior to joining the faculty at Penn State. He has a Ph.D. and Master’s degree in Industrial and System Engineering both from Auburn University.  He is a professional member of the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE), the Institute for Industrial and Systems Engineering (IISE), the American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA) and the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society (HFES). Dr. Haight has published more than 60 peer-reviewed scientific journal articles, book chapters and proceedings papers and is the editor-in-chief of and contributing author for the J.W. Wiley and Sons’, Handbook of Loss Prevention Engineering (2013) and the ASSE Safety Professionals Handbook 2nd ed. (2012).

In his spare time Joel enjoys spending time with his family, travelling and hunting.

Joshua Harvey

Joshua Harvey

IT Cordinator

Joshua has a key role within IPG. As our IT Coordinator, he is vital to the smooth running of our team’s technology. This ensures a high level of service to our clients.

Joshua designs, implements and maintains company databases, provides the primary desktop and software-related technical support for problem resolution, server administration, user account maintenance, network security, system documentation, and help-desk support functions.

Under Joshua’s guidance we are also exploring new opportunities to develop our brand in the social media market and view this as an exciting future addition to our marketing platform.

He is currently undertaking studies at Massey University in Wellington for a Bachelor of Arts in Creative Media Production. When his heavy workload allows time off, Joshua enjoys photography and film making.
